Home Shipping Network

On the way to work today I noted a large expensive house shaped like a boring rectangular box. It struck me silly that so much money went to into something with so little creativity. Truth is though, houses have been shaped like boxes for generations (and still are). Thankfully, we are a creative species and in the past 70 years we’ve been able to take the shape of houses to crazy new levels. But, if some pretty inventive designers have their way, it might be a good time for a return to our roots.

Yahoo green takes a look at the new houses constructed from recycled shipping containers. Check out the article for a closer look at some of the diverse and inspiring models and examples from around the world. Maybe Sustainy will create our own traveling shipping container home show. It will definitely save on the transportation costs!

Sustainy first saw this style of architecture along the canals in Venice beach, CA and with the arrival of ‘Ashes and Snow’ and the Nomadic Museum at the Santa Monica pier in 2006. It’s good to see how far they are coming. We’re looking forward to shippable homes that arrive packed with everything necessary to live comfortably off the grid. Ours is going to land here. Where will you put yours?
